Abraham Lincoln saw an opportunity to make an enormous statement to the American people on the significance of the war. Abraham Lincoln was asked for his remarks regarding the war. These remarks later became known as the Gettysburg Address. Newspapers all over the country reprinted Lincoln's speech. Opinions were divided amongst Political lines. Republicans praised his speech, but the Democrats viewed the speech as inappropriate and inadequate. Although there are different beliefs, this address is still to this day, remembered as the most important speech in American history.
